Fellow Activists,
I know many of you are planning to be election workers on Election Day and others are unable to get out of work commitments. But many of you may not have been asked to play a specific role and we need your help.
We expect a record turnout based on the turnout during Early Voting. Our concern is that many of the “voting centers” are going to be crowded and it will be extremely helpful to have Poll Greeters out beyond the 100-foot marker with cell phones and a list of alternative places (see the list below).
From David Smith, Candidate for County Judge: In their zeal to cut costs, the County Commissioners Court has set up a number of Tuesday polling places to become very, very crowded. Poll greeters at crowded locations can help by directing voters to uncrowded locations.
If you are an Election Worker, help out by making sure your election judge frequently sends wait time information to the County Elections Office. This information can be accessed online by any voter.
Poll greeters with a smart phone or access to a computer inside a library can access County Elections Office website http://public1.co.collin.tx.us/elections/polling_locations/default.aspx that will show the wait times at each polling place.
If you can poll greet for even two hours – before work, at lunch, after work, etc. – it will help tremendously. No training necessary – just be outside the 100-foot marker with cell phone and a list of polling places.
Numbers to use to call for assistance;
- DPCC Office – 972-578-1483
- County Elections Office – 972-547-1990
Some precincts have multiple voting locations that are almost equidistant, but Central Plano looks sparse – there appears to be a void of voting centers between Alma and Preston and between Parker and McDermott – only Suncreek UMC in Allen and Carpenter MS in Plano are in that box. This area covers 22 precincts.
TDWCC is paying for robocalls to go out to those who haven’t voted yet, telling them their nearest location, but note that anyone can vote at ANY voting center in the county. Check http://public1.co.collin.tx.us/elections/polling_locations/default.aspx for the list of voting centers and the approximate wait time at each throughout the day on Tuesday.
