I’m sure you are as outraged and as concerned as I am about how women’s reproductive rights are under attack in Congress. I call on you to Stand with Planned Parenthood this Wednesday, Feb 16.
Congress is going all out, including eliminating the Title X family planning program and prohibiting Planned Parenthood from getting ANY federal funding: not for family planning, not for cancer screening, not for HIV testing, not for nothing! And with absolutely no regard for the millions of women Planned Parenthood helps every year.
FACT: Planned Parenthood of North Texas alone provided subsidized care to almost 36,000 women in 2010.
There are several ways you can speak out on Tuesday — we hope you will do them all:
- Speak out via Facebook
- Tweet about the assault on our rights on Twitter
- Call your Congress people
- Join PPNT at their Dallas office Tuesday night to phone bank. Click to RSVP.
- Write letters to the editor
Kelly Hart, Planned Parenthood of North Texas, says “I know our local reps hate Planned Parenthood, but they need to know not all their constituents agree with them.”
Focus will ramp up for Texas Legislature later this week to address the sonogram bill.
Remember Lynn Wolfe’s words on the conservative assault:
The endless cycle of childbirth
Here’s the clueless conservative cycle regarding pregnancy and childbirth:
- Teach abstinence only
- Make birth control difficult to obtain
- Make terminating a pregnancy harder on a woman than it already is
- Attempt to keep decent health care from these pregnant women — and subsequent children
- Complain about the number of babies born to single women
- Not notice that babies are born sans bootstraps
- Shake head about women’s alleged lack of morals in having said babies
- Keep men blameless in this scenario
- Complain about having to pay taxes to take care of these children
Repeat.
