Hello BROADS (Book Readers of a Democratic Slant),

We had a great discussion last week.   Michael Moore sure has led an interesting life and been in the right place at the right time to meet some interesting people!

We also had a few new faces  welcome to – Pat Alexander and Kelly Haynes, so glad that you could join us!

Here are the book suggestions that we got for the May meeting.   If anyone has any other suggestions, please get them to me by Friday (3/2) and I’ll send them out for a vote the week after that.  I’ll then compile a list to send out for a vote.

The Fox Effect: How Roger Ailes Turned a Network into a Propaganda Machine

The Dictator’s Handbook: Why Bad Behavior is Almost Always Good Politics

Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky

What’s the Matter with Kansas?: How Conservatives Won the Heart of America

Keep those suggestions coming!

Diane

This past Monday, TDWCC hosted Michael Messer and Leesa Monroe of the organization Save Texas Schools. We were treated to a very informative program into the frustrating reality of the public education budget cuts enacted in 2011. Leesa Monroe, who is the Assistant Principal of an Arlington-area junior high, demonstrated exactly how the cuts affect our students on a micro level, while Michael Messer enlisted our help with upcoming rallies to show our support for the public education system. Go to savetxschools.org to find out more about the March 24th rally in Austin.

We also received updates on our 2012 Membership Drive, the GOTV Action Plan, and a recap of the annual TDW Conference in Austin.

Join us next month for our guest speaker, Liz Walley of Clean Elections Texas.

We had a very lively convention yesterday in Austin. There were more than 200 members there from different TDW chapters around the state. Nine members from our group were there. Our own Barb Walters ran for VP of the state TDW but didn’t win.
