Dr. Jeff Dodds, Clinical Director and Staff Psychologist at the Dallas VA Medical Center was the featured speaker at the May meeting of the TDWCC. Dr. Dodds gave a very informative presentation regarding the VA’s programs and services available to our veterans. He outlined the symptoms and some of the therapies involved with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which is one of the most prevalent disorders diagnosed after service in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts. He also discussed the problems related to traumatic brain injury and ways to diagnose and treat what many call the signature injury of our current battles. Also outlined were the numerous social problems occurring amongst the ranks of our returning vets and their families, including homelessness, divorce and infidelity, financial issues, unemployment, anger, and avoidance. Dr. Dodds spent a good deal of time answering numerous questions from those in attendance.
