Keep  HOPE  Alive

The election of Barack Obama as President has renewed our hope for the future.

What is your hope for the future?

Hope is the bedrock of this nation; the belief that our destiny will not be written for us, but by us; by all those men and women who are not content to settle for the world as it is; who have courage to remake the world as it should be.

--Barack Obama

Next Monthly Meeting:

Monday, July27, 2009, 6:45 pm at Collin College - Frisco, 9700 Wade Blvd., Founders Hall, Rm F148.

Kathy Miller, President/Executive Director of Texas Freedom Network, (www.tfn.org) will be the featured speaker at the TDWCC meeting in July. The topic is "Just Say Don't Know: The State of Sexuality Education in Texas".

Ms. Miller is responsible for the development, planning, staffing and implementation of all programs since becoming TFN President in January 2005.

The Texas Freedom Network advances a mainstream agenda of religious freedom and individual liberties and most recently published a report that conclusively demonstrates Texas is failing families and students when it comes to sexuality education. The report "Just Say Don't Know: Sexuality Education in Texas Public Schools," reveals  what public schools are actually teaching students about sexuality education in their classrooms, which to a large degree is medically inaccurate and of concern since there is now clear proof that abstinence-only sexuality education does not work.

  • Texas has the highest rate of births and repeat births to teens in the country
  • 60% of teen mothers fail to graduate from high school
  • Every ten minutes a teen in Texas becomes pregnant
  • Over a 13-year period, teen births in Texas are estimated to cost taxpayers $15.1 billion

Democratic Gains Make Texas One of the "Most Balanced" States
Republicans Lose Lead in Party Identification

According to Lone Star Project (www.lonestarproject.net), a recent Gallup Survey report confirms that Texas is no longer a solid Republican state. In fact, it lists Texas as among the “most balanced political states” in party identification.  Gallop conducted over 19,000 surveys in Texas during 2008 as part of its Gallup Daily tracking polls.  The surveys show that Democrats in Texas now have a slight advantage in party identification, 43% to 41%, a clear reversal from the recent past.
