The Democratic Party of Collin County, in cooperation with Organizing for America, a project of the Democratic National Committee, will be hosting a “Final Push” phone bank  to provide support to President Obama’s Health Insurance Reform Legislation coming up for a vote in Congress in the coming days.

The President has delayed his trip to Asia to help get this passed, and he needs our help — as do of course the millions of Americans whose lives will be improved by this monumental legislation.

There will be some phone lines available, but please bring your cell phone if you have one.

Please RSVP through this link.

On March 6th, the TDWCC commenced its 2010 fundraising social season with its first ever evening-at-the-theater.  114 TDWCC guests saw the Rover Dramawerks production of Mark Twain’s A Murder, A Mystery and A Marriage at the Courtyard Theatre in downtown Plano. Performed as a Bluegrass musical, the comedy-melodrama, true to its genre, solicited audience participation. Yes!  The villain got his share of boos and hisses. The play’s narrative intentionally left some questions unanswered, so theater patrons could seek one another’s insights during the post-performance reception. The spacious, winding lobby of the Courtyard was the ideal setting for drinks, hors d’oeuvres and lively conversation. TDWCC guests mingled with each other, cast members, and Rover Dramawerks theater-goers.

TDWCC was delighted to sponsor an entertainment event that demonstrated off-off-off-off Broadway is alive and well in the historic district of downtown Plano.

Thanks to all of you who supported this successful fundraiser. We had a wonderful turnout.  Our thanks to Rover Dramawerks for their generosity in supporting our effort.

TDWCC is going to have a booth there and we need volunteers to staff it. Let us know if you can work a shift (1 hour – 4 hours – up to you).  Send email to President Barb Walters.

This year’s Texas Democratic State Convention will be held at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, June 25-26th. There is great enthusiasm on the part of the Corpus Christi community to welcome our Democratic Delegates, Alternates, and guests to this year’s convention and kick our election season into high gear.

Importantly, in addition to facilitating the business of the Democratic Party, those elected as Delegates and Alternates to the State Convention have a number of opportunities to get involved and support the convention planning process, including soliciting auction items for our Convention Kickoff Silent Auction and helping to find volunteers willing to work at the State Convention.

Texas Democratic Women (TDW), our state-wide parent organization, will hold the Women’s Caucus at the convention and help with the Lady Bird Johnson Breakfast.

The address of the Courtyard Theater is 1509 H. Ave., Plano.  Parking access is off G Ave. or 16th St.

The Courtyard Theater is located in the Historical District of downtown Plano. It’s in the block bordered by Ave. H on the east side, Ave. G on the west side, 16th St. on the north side, and 15th St on the south side. Ave. H is technically the front side of the theater, but Ave. G, the backside of the theater, is where the REAL parking is. This is where the directions lead.

From 15th Street:

  • Head east on 15th. Cross under North Central Expressway. The first light you come to after the light at North Central is Avenue G. You will see a City of Plano on the corner of Ave. G. Make a LEFT turn (north) on Avenue G.
  • Immediately look for a sign for the theater on your RIGHT. Make a RIGHT turn before you pass the sign into what appears to be small driveway/alleyway.  It actually takes you, very quickly, to a LEFT turn into the large parking lot.
  • If you overshoot the turn into the driveway, continue on Ave. G until the next street, 16th street. Make a RIGHT and then another quick RIGHT into the parking lot.

The Courtyard Theatre is the building on the right. You should see all the lights on.

Heading South on Ave. K:

  • At 15th Street, which has a light, make a RIGHT turn. (Be careful not to turn on the “street” before it which is 15th Place and leads to a dead end.) You will cross the DART tracks, and pass Ave. H.
  • At Ave. G (there is a light), take a RIGHT.  Immediately look for a sign for the theater on your RIGHT.
  • Make a RIGHT turn before you pass the sign into what appears to be small driveway/alleyway.
